Unfortunately, extensive hunting for their fur in the late 19th and early 20th centuries led to a dramatic population decline. Although conservation efforts, including habitat protection and anti-poaching measures, have helped improve their numbers, koalas still face threats from habitat destruction and disease.

The 2024 Australian Kilo Silver Koala Coins, offered here in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, come in individual capsules with a distinctive P125 mint mark to celebrate the Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary. They also feature a micro-laser engraved security element on the reverse that requires magnification to be seen.

The obverse of the 2024 Kilo Silver Koala Coin presents the first-ever portrait of King Charles III on Australian coins, crafted by Dan Thorne. This left-profile relief depicts the king in a suit without a crown, marking his debut appearance in the Silver Koala Series at the Perth Mint.
