The Incuse Indian design, created by Bela Lyon Pratt, differs from traditional depictions of Native Americans on US coins. While the Indian Head Gold Eagle featured Liberty wearing a Native American headdress, Pratt’s design for the Quarter Eagle ($2.50) and Half Eagle ($5) coins portrayed an actual Native American figure.

Pratt’s designs were used in separate coin series. The Quarter Eagle was minted from 1908 to 1915 and 1925 to 1929, while the Half Eagle was produced from 1908 to 1916 and again in 1929, initially by the US Mint’s Denver and Philadelphia Mint locations.

The obverse of the ½ oz GSM Incuse Indian Silver Round replicates Pratt’s original design. It features a left-profile Native American leader wearing a headdress, surrounded by 15 stars and the word “Liberty.” Notably, the design is incuse, meaning it’s struck into the coin’s surface, creating a unique depth.

On the reverse, you’ll find an American bald eagle, akin to Saint-Gaudens’ design for the Indian Head Gold Eagle. The eagle sits atop a cluster of arrows wrapped in an olive branch, with “E Pluribus Unum” and the addition of “In God We Trust,” distinguishing it from the original Indian Head Gold Eagle.
