- First minted in 1997, it is the first and only official platinum coin from the U.S Mint.
- From 1997 to 2008, the Bullion Platinum Eagles were issued in 1oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz denominations.
- It was not struck from 2009 to 2013.
- In 2015, the bullion was also not minted due to an insufficient quantity of blanks.
